Round pen

Today I put the new guys in the round pen for a short “get to know ya” session. It pretty much went exactly as expected.

Regal Spirit (aka Reg) kinda blew me off. “yeah yeah yeah, honey. Whatever. Get me a beer or something.”

Tonga (aka Tony) was a total baby. What can one expect from someone who still even has baby teeth? “Hey! I’m walkin’, I’m walkin’, this is great! Oh! Look at the fence!! My dog, was that there a minute ago? Whoa? What’s that? Oh! I can do that! I’m walking, I’m doing the whoa thing, I’m walking and wow! Did you see that tree???” Sigh. Yeah, the attention span of a gnat.

And lastly, Wild and Royal (aka Roy) was darling. I have never had a horse try so hard on his first time out. He was totally focused on me, and everytime he got something right he wanted to keep repeating the same thing. “I don’t get it. You’re pushing on me. Oh? step back? Like this? This is good? Okay, watch this! Watch me back! I can back forever! Back back back back!” So we’ve got both extremes and something smack in the middle. Ought to keep me entertained for a while.

Oh how true! We’re starting a 3 1/2 year old Andalusian blend filly in the round pen (she’s halter broke but that’s it) and she also has the attention span of a gnat! But so wants to please that she is a good listener during the limited attention span there is defnly hope!
