Thoroughbred Retirement Foundation at Montpelier
A 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization
The Thoroughbred Retirement Foundation is a registered 501(c)(3) non-profit organization established in 1983. The TRF herd lives at twenty-one (21) TRF thoroughbred retirement facilities across the country. Nine of those farms are “TRF Second Chances Program” farms located at state correctional facilities where inmates participate in a vocational training program in equine care and stable management. At James Madison’s Montpelier, the farm maintains a maximum of 50 horses with many adoptable for trail and pleasure riding.
